OwnCloud Encryption

Postby littlebuddha » Tue Jun 12, 2012 4:33 pm

Hi everybody,

I was wondering where to find more precise information about the server-side encryption. How does it work? What is/are the used technique(s)?

What happens to the encrypted files/folders if you want to share it/them with someone who is/isn't part of OwnCloud?

I hope that I am not reasking the same questions again and again, but I haven't found any other post concerning this subject so far...

Thank you for helping

Hi,

i had the same question and found this blog entry about the encryption in OwnCloud:

http://crypto.junod.info/2012/05/24/own ... ncryption/

I don't think this will answer your question but should be a start :D

Perhaps this file can shed some light on your questions: http://gitorious.org/owncloud/owncloud/blobs/master/apps/files_encryption/lib/crypt.php

AFAIK sharing with encrypted files is not supported at the moment :) We are working on it. If you enable encryption, sharing is disabled.

If you would like more info, drop by on IRC (evening Europe time is best usually) and ask around.

Hi,

I'm interested by this option and I would like to know if some update are available (in the administration panel, I have the module in deprecated).
I would like to activate encryption for all documents and users (I use OC 4.5.1a).

Thanks

Sorry to be the messenger of bad news, but it seems it's not such a good time to activate encryption - there will supposedly be some changes to the encryption app with version 5.0 of owncloud (the 4.0.x /4.5.x version had some security problems as far as I heard). But I haven't heard of any release plan for 5.0 yet...

What happened to the roadmap? Does it still exist?
I'm new to OC, and only installed v5 after reading it was supposed to have encryption, only to find today that it doesn't.

Is there any update on it's inclusion?
