Another good idea - to make the app bullet-proof and more crash-friendly.
I've just performed a successful test drive on the fresh 4.0.1 instance. It works for me.

The error is likely on the server side. Do you have php-curl extension enabled?
Is there anything in the server log after the sync attempt?

I have asked my server:
php-curl is activated an in there are no errors in the serverlog.

I also tested the sync with my firefox. The Error-Message in the console was:

Switch log level to debug on the admin page

Hi,

so the contacts should be fetched now, but it is not possible to parse contact images.

Please replace the file apps/gsync/lib/shared.php with
https://gitorious.org/~vicdeo/owncloud/ ... shared.php

Most of the contacts will be imported, only a few not.

When i take the files shared.php from the link above no contacts are imported only this debug messages

Sorry, I was at the conference this weekend.

Contacts are imported only once. On the next execution they are synced with previously imported contacts.
AFAIK, OC4 has a limit for the length of the group title.
Is is possible for you to post here some of your group titles?
I'm interested in the longest title in the first place.
