sendfile request failed with http status 403 when uploading

If this is your own server, see this other FAQ entry about known problems with webserver modules.

If you have owncloud running on a hosting provider, check the provider's configuration interface for your website on any WebDAV configuration options, and disable them, at least for the owncloud folder. If you don't see any such option, you have to ask your hoster to do this for you.

is WebDAV the same as webdisk? because in my cpanel I can only see webdisk. I want to know why I need to disable webDAV so that owncloud windows client can upload files to server? and what kind of hosting provider that supports owncloud out of the box?
thanks

is WebDAV the same as webdisk?

I have no experience whatsoever with cpanel, but judging from what I read here: http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/view/A ... ApiWebDisk. webdisk is the name for WebDAV in cpanel (no idea why they had to complicate matters by giving it another name...).

I can't find any option to disable webdisk in my cpanel and my windows owncloud client kept displaying error like this.

04-10 18:10:09:562 oc_module: PUT request on /cloud/owncloud/remote.php/webdav/clientsync/Credits.jpg!
04-10 18:10:09:562 oc_module: Sendfile handling request type PUT.
04-10 18:10:09:562 oc_module: Put file size: 38772, variable sizeof: 8
04-10 18:10:12:046 oc_module: sendfile request failed with http status 403!
04-10 18:10:12:046 _csync_push_file: file: C:/Documents and Settings/jacobian\ownCloud/Credits.jpg, command: sendfile, error: Invalid argument from errno 22

can you tell me how can I solve this problem?

if you have problem with your own self-hosted owncloud storage, then you can try this https://owndrive.com/ online storage, although it'll give you only 1 GB but it acts the same as owncloud. and I sometime wonder how can owndrive.com make it works with the dekstop client regarding upload while my desktop client can't.

Ask your hoster on how to disable this WebDisk stuff. I don't think that someone can give you support for 3rd party stuff.

what I don't understand is why owncloud wanted me to disable webdisk in my cpanel? webdisk gave me the ability to access folders in my cpanel using My Network Places in windows menu. besides what it is got to do with 403 forbidden? can you explain to me the relation between 403 forbidden in owncloud and webdisk in cpanel?

Exactly this is described in the first post of the FAQ. But please can we move this discussion into a new thread?

Discussing this in a FAQ makes this FAQ thread growing with useless informations.

I still don't understand what is the problem exactly.
Anyway, I'm using the dav URI in file manager at the moment, but it's not the same.

Hi, got the same prob with the desktop client (403 errors), the webinterface is ok (file and dirs are downloaded too by the sync client), tested this: http://yourowncloud/remote.php/webdav
I then see directories and files which I can open, so that seems be ok too.
mod_rewrite is compiled, and enabled, disabled web dav for the vhost, no mod_spdy enabled, SELinux is not enabled.
This thread seems to be from a while ago, its seems like people just give up?
Version 7.0
Any thoughts or links?

UPDATE:
I am bugging out on this one, I already had problems with the installation, being a php programmer myself I think these problems could have been much more easily detected if the installer gives detailed information about missing extensions or things which are enabled but should not be.
Apache modules can be detected too. Given the used technology in this system, this wouldn't be like rocket science, on the contrary It's free stuff, but place at least a disclaimer about the possible arising problems and the lack of testing code with regard to the configuration needed would be my advise. The web page of owncloud has a modern look and everything looks smooth, but with this, I feel like I am back in 1998.
