Stable versions are the ones a forum is mainly used for IMHO. Here we do our best.
For sure it would be good to have a better start on 8.1 release compared to 8.0

I am still not sure about the structure ...

Yes, I have seen it. There were quite some users with specific problems their provider XY. I find these questions are really hard to answer (specific provider-configuration?, limited access to logfiles etc.) and you need someone with experience or someone who bugs his customer support...

They are hard to answer for us but there are many users e.g. using 1und1 and right now we do not have a place to collect such topics. Maybe we can write a sticky topic about hosting providers.

Content would be:
  • Ask your hoster for support. You are paying for it.
  • Check ABG if your hoster allows such as service as ownCloud
  • Each hoster has different ways to access your files and db
  • webserver setup is hosting provider specific too

Each point with details.

What do you think?

Good idea. For postings users should provide as well the name of their webhosting package because it might only work on some of them.

Would you mix such hosting related topics with licencing topics (commercial use/branding) and survey stuff?
Or subforums for "Hosting" and "Project ownCloud" topics?

We could add those both forums together with "Around the forum" to a group.

No, it doesn't really fit. You could perhaps use one forum for announcements and surveys?

I'm not so sure about the branding/licensing-topic. There have been some topics but not so many. And do we have people that know to answer legal and licensing topics? Or did you mean branding in the sense of customized theming? Maybe more a branding/theming-forum?

Announcements should be straight and only contain announcements IMHO.

"Licence" stuff has not that many topics but we do not have a place for such topics. Same for people talking about project related questions / statements. I would spent some time and dig through archives to move them to one point. What is your opinion on that point?

No, not in context of theming. Theming forums has been requested in the past, but is has been quiet the last months AFAICS.

Ok, I see your point. Just a forum for everything related to owncloud as community project and the community. That's good.

Hello,

just spent some more time thinking about changes to forums and that's the result.

Main overview would look like the following after adding new forums and moving existing:

Code: Select all

- ownCloud Project (group) (new)
 - Announcements
 - Around the project (new) (Licence, surveys, community)
 - Around the forum (moved to new group)

- ownCloud Community (group)
 - 8.x
 - 7.x
 - 6.x
 - 5.x
 - desktop
 - mobile
 - FAQ
 - Tutorial
 - Hosting (new)
 - Discuss possible bugs & feature requests (still leaving it for history)

- International
  - different languages
  - ...

Any comments?
