Stupid captcha

Postby Nebol » Thu Mar 07, 2013 11:19 pm

Please guys, that was one of the worst captcha's I've seen...
I failed so many times I was kicked off and had to wait to
try again. Of course I didn't wait but that's just because I know
how to get around it.

"What are the first three and last 3 characters of %
jVC%Ghy[mnE ?:"

Yeah. First I thought you meant alphanumeric characters. Fail.
Then I realized that the " ?:" wasn't part of the string. Fail.
Then with space between? or not? Fail.
And so on.
That finally I realized that there's a percentage sign at the end of
the line above... sigh.

Yes you can claim that I'm just stupid. But still. If you want more people
visiting this forum, fix the captcha.

I agree, would be nice to have to waste time on this kind of unclear captcha. Took me several times to get it right. Or maybe bots are gettings smarter than us now

If you have seen how many spam posts there are on this forum (at least 2 a day, maybe more) then you will understand that this system is used. There are so few because of the difficult captcha. They have to get a human to make a account and post. Bots can't crack this one (yet) and most other captcha's are already cracked.

I also don't think it's that much of a problem to use 10 minutes of time (if it takes that long) on making a account for a forum that gives you so much (free) assistence.

By the way: I have more problems with the words that are moving or written at an angle :D . My vision is not that great and I always have to guess, so I am greatful for this kind of captcha.

That isn't a captcha.
It is calles Q&A.

We had such a lot spam. Around christmas > 100 a day.
The last Q&A are more difficult. I change them once a week anyway.

Captchas are hard for handicaped people.

@Nebol: Feedback is alway welcome. I will change Q&A and use easier random strings.

Add me as one of the idiots that got tripped up by the captcha debacle. It's kinda
infuriating  only wasted 2 hours on it. Got in eventually

I made it in as well after a couple days of trying. I think its the message "one or more fields were marked as spam" than throws people off. I was thinking I was entering the (anti-spam) captcha wrong until I saw a post this morning where someone else tried creating a different user name so I tried the same and was successful. Most boards will say the username is already taken when you try to register.

This.

After several hours of clearing browser cache, looking for hidden honey-trap form fields that might have been filled by LastPass, making a new email alias (to avoid using a Spamex address), ...

Please, just tell us if a username is already taken (or just 'not acceptable').
