Migration from Windows to Linux ?

Postby MarioC » Thu Apr 24, 2014 2:04 pm

Hello,

I have installed OwnCloud6 on Windows 2008 server, IIS, PHP, MySQL, and started using it.

Then just for fun i installed CentOS6 and did same thing (Apache, PHP, MySQL) to check and compare speed of this 2. So 2 virtual machines with same resources (4 cores, 4GB RAM), same version of OwnCloud. Only thing diferent is platform. Windows 2008 R2 (x64) vs. CentOS6 (x64).

And linux version is at least 3 times faster than windows. I will not go into how, why, optimisations etc.etc. I'm saying out-of-the-box installation on both servers.

My question is, can i migrate from windows to linux? I can copy Data dir no problem, i can copy, config file and set it up for new server, but i made MySQL backup and checked tables, and in tables with paths to files or dirs, i see that not only absolute and relative path are there (those ones i can find and replaye with linux paths) but there is path_hash that i do not know what to do with or how to create it for my new linux paths?

Anyway my question is "Can you migrate OwnCloud6 from windows server (MySQL database) to linux server (MySQL database).

Thx!

Hi,

the "normal" Migration steps are provided here:

http://doc.owncloud.org/server/6.0/admi ... ating.html

After the migration of the database you could try to rescan the filesystem like described here:

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=7733

to fix the path to the files. No idea if this will work without a problem and this probably needs some testing from your side.

Mario,

Were you able to migrate from Windows to Linux successfully? I'm contemplating the same scenario and would appreciate any details you can provide.

Thanks!

Sry for late response, but yes, i made it work, with some tweaks in DB and running rescan command on server like RealRancor suggested. Working now with no problem on linux.

Hi MarioC,

Can you give me a short overview which "Tweaks" you did?

We are stuck in migration due to filename problems.

Thanks in advance

Mario
