Keeping data directory in S3 bucket

Postby pmatos » Fri Oct 10, 2014 12:25 pm

Hi,

I have a linode where I run owncloud but due to space constraints I need to put the data directory somewhere else.

I thought about an s3 bucket but I am just reading 'Eventual Consistency' : http://shlomoswidler.com/2009/12/read-a ... mazon.html

And I think this might come to bite me. Since getting more disk space on Linode is super-expensive, I am wondering if any of you have any suggestions or have tried having it in an s3 bucket without issues.

Thanks,
Paulo Matos

Nope. I tried it but I don't think it's possible. Connection is too flaky to an S3 bucket for the amount of writes and reads done by owncloud.

The entreprise edition can also use external storage as user's principal storage. Nextcloud will include enterprise features in the community version.

Does this mean we should be moving to NextCloud?

If you don't want to subscribe to the enterprise version, I would consider that in your place. But that feature hasn't been implemented so far in nextcloud (expected for next major release). I would first run a test setup and check if everything works as you want it.
