403 on *Dav services

Postby DokktorRavenstein » Tue Mar 20, 2012 3:21 pm

Hi guys,

I installed owncloud on my VPS this morning and spent ages wondering why I was getting 403 errors every time I tried to access one of the DAV services from my desktop machine. I scoured the forum and found a couple of topics that were similar, but the solutions did not help.

I eventually found the following lines in my apache config

Code: Select all

               <LimitExcept GET POST OPTIONS>
                       Order deny,allow
                        Deny from all
               </LimitExcept>

These lines are in the apache configuration for debian-esque operating systems by default and essentially stop apache from accepting requests that are not GET POST or OPTIONS. I disabled these lines by commenting them out.

If anyone else is experiencing the 403 Restricted bug, this might be the answer. I was wondering if there is anything that could be added to the owncloud .htaccess file to prevent this problem or at the very least if a warning about this could be added to the support wiki?

Edit: apologies if this is the wrong place for me to post this message.

In some hosting environment which restrict what you can do, you may need to customise the virtualhost

Code: Select all

<Directory /your/docroot>
        <Limit GET POST OPTIONS PROPFIND PUT DELETE MKCOL MOVE>
                Order allow,deny
                Allow from all
        </Limit>
        <LimitExcept GET POST OPTIONS PROPFIND PUT DELETE MKCOL MOVE>
                Order deny,allow
                Deny from all
        </LimitExcept>
</Directory>

PUT is to send files
DELETE is to delete elements
MKCOL is to create folders
MOVE is to move elements
