Install problem

Postby LinuxLove » Wed Oct 10, 2012 2:34 am

Trying to install on my cPanel / Centos server running Apache 2/ PHP 5.3 / MySQL 5. Its not working.

Error log shows:

root@server [/home/username/public_html/owncloud]# cat error_log
[10-Oct-2012 00:18:25 UTC] PHP Warning: session_start() [<a href='function.session-start'>function.session-start</a>]: open(/tmp/sess_5927cd6db7d5e7568bc241c8684c1abb, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /home/username/public_html/owncloud/lib/base.php on line 264

[10-Oct-2012 00:24:48 UTC] PHP Warning: mysql_close(): 32 is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/username/public_html/owncloud/lib/setup.php on line 149

I installed under my main domain and permissions are:
drwxr-xr-x 14 nobody nobody 4.0K Oct 9 19:18 owncloud/

However, when it asks to create an admin and in advanced setup area for MySQL info, I put everything correctly and hit finish setup. All it does is refresh the page again, all blank fields.

I think that changing owner as apache.apache for owncloud root directory maybe helpful.

Apache runs as "nobody" on a cpanel server

You could try running the tools script to check for potential problems.

it probably means that you need to adapt the line

Code: Select all

    $PASSWORD= ...;

(which is line 1 if you start counting from 0, as many computer scientists do - I know, not very intuitive for non-computer-scientists, but that's like it is ;)).
Enter a password of your choosing there - you'll then have to enter that when calling the script in the browser.

Oh and btw. regarding the "Permission denied" error in your logfile:

Code: Select all

[10-Oct-2012 00:18:25 UTC] PHP Warning: session_start() [<a href='function.session-start'>function.session-start</a>]: open(/tmp/sess_5927cd6db7d5e7568bc241c8684c1abb, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /home/username/public_html/owncloud/lib/base.php on line 264

See here for a detailed discussion - your apache user most probably doesn't have write permissions on the /tmp directory - that could also cause a load of other problems; the easiest solution (if possible) is to run

Code: Select all

chmod 777 /tmp

This is so irritating :(

Data directory (/home/user/public_html/owncloud/data) not writable by ownCloud

Permissions can usually be fixed by giving the webserver write access to the ownCloud directory

I changed it to 0770 and that's what I get. If I change it to 777, it complains that is writable by public.

What gives? This software install is insanely complicate for nothing. I've had no trouble installing enormous amount of other script with similar common requirements.

Who's the owner of the data directory? Sounds like it's not the webserver user

My account username is, and that is how it works by default in cpanel / apache 2.2 server environment. The domain user is the owner and apache runs that way.
