Multiple Companies on a single Owncloud Installation

Postby rhbkweb » Wed Nov 21, 2012 1:32 am

Hi,

I have a 5 different clients / companies that want to test out Owncloud Community / Free Edition. So in order to to that can i have a single Owncloud installation and then create 5 groups, with each group having its own users?

Or must i install 5 owncloud's instances one for each company?

NOTE: Security information is essential. So i must ensure that no user has access to other companiesfiles/information.

Thanks

When having five separate instances you don't have worry about security/sharing issues.

AFAIK owncloud has no farm capabilities. No single installation for multiple instances.
ownCloud is not only about files. There is so much more. Explore the apps to extend your ownCloud.

Hi rakekniven,

Thanks for your response. I know that having 5 individual owncloud installations will be the most secure way of setting up the service for my 5 clients.

But there will be 5 owncloud installations to manage. So, is it possible using one single owncloud installation create 5 different groups/companies each one with their own users?

Thanks

I understood your question and tried to answer it in my last post.

Maybe someone else knows better?

Hi rakekniven,

Once again thanks for your response. What i want to know is as simple as this:

With Owncloud Open Source version, can we create multiple groups, each one with their own users?

Thanks

Yes but not recommended for 5 clients.

5 installations are the best solution. Easier for you to manage and secure their files.

p/s: use virtualbox ^.^

Hi Zhaf,

Thanks for your advice.

You said that for 5 clients/companies (each client with its own users) one single Owncloud installation with do the job, but you don't recommended it. Is this just because security, or there are other issues and features that will not work propely?

Thanks

I am curious to know why you would recommend using Virtualbox. You will lose performance. You can just install 5 dbs on the server and use prefixes like clienta.yourdomain.com clientb.yourdomain.com etc.

Easier to manage on once machine, less performance degradation and nothing to manage after its setup.
