Error Creating User - User Already Exists

Postby cejack4 » Thu Jan 03, 2013 2:13 am

I get the following error code when trying to enter a user in the Settings / Users administrative section of Owncloud:

"Error Creating User - User Already Exists"

I have Ajaxplorer (a similarly competitive open source file sharing facility) on this same system (raspberry pi) and it works clean as a whistle and I can add users and administrative accounts all day long.

I can kind of presume that there are some kind of permission or ownership problems here but I am admittedly poor with Linux permissions / ownership. Any guides, recommendations or suggestions for this particular problem adding users are welcome.

I can login and get access to the Owncloud server with the root login. However, that is the only user I can provision at the present time.

Specs:

Running Owncloud 4.5.5 on Raspberry pi. Using Debian Squeeze via Squeezeplug.

http://www.squeezeplug.de/

8GB Class 6 SD Card.

2TB external USB Drive.

Headless setup with OpenSSH.

There was a report of this problem a little while ago (see this thread). It was never resolved, though unfortunately, but maybe you can get some inspiration there? Is there anything in the logs?

Nothing in the logs when I do this. Just some stuff when I was monkeying around with Vcards in the contacts folder but that does not appear to be anything to do with the lack of ability to create users.

Just fixed this by an owncloud re-install running SqueezePlug.

This seems to have done the trick and I did not use "root" as administrative user name. I'm presuming this may have had something to do with my previous failure. Not sure but thought I'd share.

I still find Linux permissions and ownership massively confusing...

The message in such a case is quite confusing and in my opinion should be changed (no idea if that's easily possible though). Anybody willing to report an issue for it on github?
