Frank Karlitschek is founding company "nextcloud". What about owncloud.org?

Postby rakekniven » Thu Jun 02, 2016 11:35 am

Hello,

What does it mean for owncloud.org?
Will nextcloud and owncloud.inc base on owncloud repos at github?
Nextcloud has a different logo.
Does the logo of owncloud.org belong to owncloud.inc?
Who is the owner of our forums?
Who is responsible?
Will nextcloud start support forums (or successor)?
ownCloud is not only about files. There is so much more. Explore the apps to extend your ownCloud.

* owncloud.org belongs to the ownCloud Inc.
* repos will be forked based on the owncloud repos
* logo is a protected trademark and belongs to the Inc so nextcloud can't use it
* no idea who owns the forums, I guess the Inc
* most ownCloud devs from the Inc and the comunity will move to Nextcloud, read Franks blog post about more information about how it will be organized http://karlitschek.de/2016/06/nextcloud/
* https://help.nextcloud.com/ which even has developers frequenting the forums ;)

AFAIK the mailing list will merge into the new forum, so it will be one channel for common communication :)

Developers are always in Github but since many years not in the forum.

Persons like RealRancor, rakekniven and tflidd are the one who answers most of the questions in forum and submitted the problematic to Github.

Will there still be cooperation between the projects at all (does the license allow backporting of features between each ofther)?

Nextcloud can take ownCloud's patches since it's AGPL licensed. ownCloud can't however take Nextcloud's patches since this would infect ownCloud core with AGPL code and thus resulting in a problem for the enterprise apps.
