This is the response from SiteGround:

I have checked and I can confirm that the Memcache PHP extension has been installed and is available on our servers. You can also confirm that via the following phpinfo file:

http://owncloud.knightrealms.com/i.php

The user that replied to that thread has incorrectly stated that it should be a PHP module, since PHP does not use modules, but extensions and the Memcache one is a PHP extension.

I'm trapped between two support groups that are telling me the other one is wrong. What I need at this point is the correct entry in config.php, since the sample one in the documentation refers to APCu as the Local, and not memcached.

Hi,

your posted config.php entry should be fine. I'm trying to explain for the third time what the problem is:

The PHP module (or call it extension, or extension module or whatever you like :) ) which needs to be enabled is:

memcached

not

memchache

Your posted phpinfo shows that only the second one is installed/enabled, not the first one. And only the first one is supported by oC.

Just as a reference for you that there are two completely different modules available. Currently:

https://php.net/manual/en/book.memcache.php

is enabled but:

https://secure.php.net/manual/en/book.memcached.php

needs to be enabled. I hope its clear now what the requirements are.

I understand what you are saying. The support group that manages the server is telling me you are wrong.

I'll ask them again to verify this, or to find an alternative.

Just see your phpinfo and search for "memcached" and then you see who is wrong. ;) There is also no alternative, they just need to install/enable the correct php module.

I can also point you to the docs where the correct requirement is listed:

PHP module memcached

I finally got a coherent response - that specific module is not and cannot be compiled on their cloud-based (virtual) servers, only on a dedicated host.

I'll look into another caching solution that is viable on a virtual environment.
