[EXTERNAL STORAGE] Copy files from external SMB mount to local storage

Postby rikmer » Fri Feb 12, 2016 5:30 pm

Hi,

is there a possibility to copy files/directories from external storage (SMB mount) to the internal storage of owncloud to be able, for example, to share files.
Or is there a possibility to share files from external storage? This would be even better.

Thanks for all information.

BR

Hi,

there is a "Files move" App available here:

https://apps.owncloud.com/content/show. ... ent=150271

which allows moving/copying files. Maybe that works for you.

Hi,

Thank you very much. I will have a look on that app.

Even smoother, as mentioned before, would be to be able share files/directories directly from external storage. Is there also a solution for that?

Hi,

you can have a look at the (little bit hidden) documentation why you're not able to share from external SMB storages:

The Session credentials mechanism uses the ownCloud login credentials of the user to connect to the storage. These are not stored anywhere on the server, but rather in the user session, giving increased security. The drawback is that sharing is disabled when this mechanism is in use, as ownCloud has no access to the storage credentials and so other users cannot use it.

Thank you again.
In between I decided that it is probably a better idea not to allow direct share from external storages (security reasons). So owncloud took the decision from me beforehand :), it seems.

I will try the app. It really seems to be the thing I need.
