HowTo: Ubuntu 14.04 Upgrade 8.2.2 -> 9.0.0.17 (RC2)

Here are some notes on upgrading from 8.2.2 to 9.0RC2 on Ubuntu 14.04

Add the 9.0 testing repo to apt

Code: Select all

sudo echo 'deb http://download.owncloud.org/download/repositories/9.0:/testing/Ubuntu_14.04/ /' >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/owncloud.list

Upgrade the packages using apt-get

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade owncloud

Run the command line upgrade utility (Note: This step took 20 minutes on my system, including 16 minutes with no apparent activity of any sort while the system was 'checking whether the database schema can be updated'.)

Code: Select all

sudo bash
cd /var/www/owncloud
sudo -u www-data ./occ upgrade

The first upgrade attempt failed with an error about memcache being unavailable. I believe this can be solved by editing an ini file somewhere, but what I did was delete these lines from config.php and run occ upgrade again:

Code: Select all

  'memcache.local' => '\\OC\\Memcache\\Memcached',
  'memcached_servers' =>
  array (
    0 =>
    array (
      0 => 'localhost',
      1 => 11211,
    ),
  ),

At this point, occ upgrade ran to completion and Owncloud was working, with complaints on the admin screen about extra files in my owncloud installation and no cache available.

I removed the extra files (<OC>/apps-inactive/*) and re-added the memcached settings to <OC>/config/config.php to get OC9 running without errors.

Finally, I needed to re-configure my custom theme and re-apply some customizations I use in <OC>/apps/user_external/lib/imap.php and <OC>/apps/files_external/lib/smb.php.

OC9 up and running... and it's looking gooood!

Thanks for sharing.
Do you have new contacts and calendar app in use? Any feedback of them?
ownCloud is not only about files. There is so much more. Explore the apps to extend your ownCloud.
