[SOLVED] Upgrading between major versions

Postby SailorJ » Sun Jun 19, 2016 12:35 am

Trying to upgrade to 9.0. I successfully upgraded from 6.x to 7.0.15. When I try to upgrade to 8.x I get:

Code: Select all

Exception: Updates between multiple major versions are unsupported.

I have tried 8.0.2, 8.0.10, 8.0.11, 8.0.12 and 8.0.13 but I can't make the jump from 7 to 8.
Do I need to downgrade to a minor version of 7 and then upgrade to 8, or...?

7.0.15->8.0.13 should be possible. After that to 8.1.8, 8.2.5 and finally 9.0.2. Are you sure that the last upgrade to 7.0.15 went properly? What does your config/config.php look like?

Success! I looked at my config.php file closer after your suggestion. Because I had copied it from the 6.x installation it still showed

Code: Select all

 'version' => '6.0.4.1',

I changed that to reflect the actual version...

Code: Select all

 'version' => '7.0.15',

and the installation was successful.

Cheers

Normally, that should be done automatically. Did you do all steps (https://doc.owncloud.org/server/8.0/adm ... -procedure) for the upgrade?

After the 7.0.15 upgrade, I deleted all the data in the new 7.0.15 owncloud directory to make room for 8.x. I failed to copy the 7.0.15 config.php file which would have been automatically updated to show the current version. I then copied the old 6.x config file into the new 8.x installation which is what produced the exception message. It worked when I copied the modified config.php file from each new upgrade into the next installation as should be done.
