Plug-in for Thunderbird to support OC in File link

Postby laryllian » Wed Oct 10, 2012 11:42 am

Heyho,
this is not directly for the Owncloud programmers, but for us community. I guess you all know file link:
<https://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/filelink-large-attachments>

With this TB functionality, you can add files to emails, but those files are then automatically uploaded to a server and the link to the file included in that email. Makes things easier. There is a sendit plugin and a dropbox plugin already. OC needs that as well, I would so happily use it. Just a thought. ;-)

Would be cool if there were a plugin for owncloud as well; as a workaround, at the moment you can always upload the file to owncloud and then share it via a public link from there!

If anybody wants to go ahead and implement the plugin, have a look here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc ... _Providers

Hi,

I second that notion.

Filelink is a really great feature in Thunderbird, but I don't want to upload my privte files to any bogus service.

That's why I have owncloud!

Can this feature get on the roadmap, please?

Thanks, southy

I'd also really like to have support for Filelink, since this is basically what keeps me from fully migrating to ownCloud from Ubuntu One!

In fact, since ownCloud is a WebDAV storage, uploading attachments is already possible using this generic WebDAV Filelink addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunde ... -filelink/

This works great, including displaying the storage quota! :)

The problem to be solved is to enable public sharing for the uploaded file and to insert the correct link into the email. I haven't found any documentation on an externally accessible ownCloud Share API, I'm not sure if that exists at all. If anyone has any pointers, I'd be glad to look more into this issue.
