Upload Limit / Problems

Postby snapr » Thu Feb 09, 2012 2:19 am

Problem
Upload problems (Limit)

Example
Unable to upload large files.

Solution 1 edit php.ini
For a 20MB limit i suggest

Code: Select all

upload_max_filesize = 20M
post_max_size = 20M
memory_limit = 500M

If you don't want to edit your global php.ini file, here are a couple more solutions from Sithmaster_08. (For Apache http server)

Solution 2 activate ownCloud's .htaccess file
  1. Find the Apache config file containing the <Directory> entry for your ownCloud install.
    e.g. The default for Ubuntu will be in /etc/apache2/sites-available/default:
  2. Add the following code to the config file. I would suggest making a new entry for your ownCloud directory if there is not already a specific entry for it.

    Code: Select all

    <Directory /var/www/>
        # existing entry, don't change
    </Directory>
    <Directory /var/www/owncloud/>
        AllowOverride All # Enables the .htaccess file in the owncloud directory
    </Directory>

  3. Restart the Apache server.

Note: The getting started instructions say the .htaccess file gets deleted after the ownCloud setup. It didn't for me, but if it does just create it and add the following (512M is the ownCloud default):

Code: Select all

<IfModule mod_php5.c>
php_value upload_max_filesize 512M
php_value post_max_size 512M
</IfModule>

Solution 3 edit the Apache config
This method is basically the same as for Solution 2, but instead of adding the AllowOverride line add the following:

Code: Select all

<Directory /var/www/owncloud/>
   <IfModule mod_php5.c>
        php_value upload_max_filesize 512M
        php_value post_max_size 512M
    </IfModule>
</Directory>

The server part seems to hold uploads in memory until they are complete.

The trick would be to to delegate the upload to the webserver or at least write the uploaded data for each MB to a temp file.

Fixed my problem, thanks.
I feel remarkable moronic for not looking under FAQs first.

For me this option won't be helpful, because my hoster doesn't allow me to change the php configuration (normal webspace). Another solution would be a flash uploader or something like that, which will simply split the files in e.g. 8MB pieces and save it into a temporary path from owncloud - when finished, it puts the files together into one and moves it into the user directory where it was supposed to be uploaded.

That would be my idea so far

    </Directory>
    <Directory /var/www/owncloud/>
        AllowOverride All # Enables the .htaccess file in the owncloud directory
    </Directory>

  3. Restart the Apache server.

</Directory>

I have the answer after tearing my hair out for a month!
My 1and1 host kept telling me that php.ini is not recursive, so i put one in each folder until it worked.

Put a php.ini in the Files folder & another in Files/Ajax
