[SOLVED] update 6.0.3: file ".ocdata" missing

Postby steph38 » Tue Apr 29, 2014 4:30 pm

Hi,

I have just updated my ownCloud to version 6.0.3 from 6.0.2 which was working well.
It is installed on a web host / shared server running Apache & MySQL.
(I cannot tweak the server but I actually never needed to).
The ownCloud db is held in MySQL.
As usual, I updated via FTP by overwriting files (the online update does not work for this type of hosting).

After copying the file and when trying to access my site for the first time, I got the following error:

Code: Select all

Data directory (/....../ownclouddirectory/data) is invalid
Please check that the data directory contains a file ".ocdata" in its root.

Indeed I have no such file in this directory.

There isn't any new line in the owncloud.log since the update.

Did you update to 6.0.3? Have you got such a file and what is in it?
Thank you,

Hi,

general infos about this .ocdata file are available here:

https://github.com/owncloud/core/pull/7732
https://github.com/owncloud/core/pull/7819

If you have problems with that new function please report it directly to the developers at the bugtracker:

https://github.com/owncloud/core/issues

using the issue template provided here:

from this https://github.com/owncloud/core/search?q=ocdata&ref=cmdform&type=Issues, it seems it does not need to contain anything but just need be there.
So I added it (no data in it), and run once again, but I got an error "failed to update documents".
I removed it, tried again, added read right to all, and now this is working.

Hi,

and no problem. Maybe you could report this to the bugtracker? A user should not need this file manually.

Mhhh, just did the manual update from 6.0.2 to 6.0.3 and the file .ocdata was created without my interaction.

I just had the same problem. I uploaded the owncloud-6.0.3.zip via ftp and then extracted it. After updating my config and data directory I get this error:
Data directory (/home/steelcad/public_html/cloud/data) is invalid
Please check that the data directory contains a file ".ocdata" in its root.

Thanks to this thread I created the empty file there and now it's working. Thanks steph38! :)

Hi,

anything in your data/owncloud.log which you could use to report a bug to the developers?

It would be very useful if you guys could report a bug in the bug tracker with information about your setup.

Normally the upgrade process from any version to OC 6.0.3 should automatically create that ".ocdata" empty file.

I suppose that you guys might have a special setup. Is your "data" dir a special mount ? (for example NFS)
