CSync failed to create a lock file - Linux problem

Postby hurior » Thu Apr 19, 2012 1:19 pm

I have a problem with the sync, I've mount my owncloud under openSuSE 12.1 + KDE (server and client) and when I add a folder to sync it says:

Code: Select all

CSync failed to create a lock file
and then stops sync.

If I start owncloud from a terminal it says that:

Code: Select all

>===================================== sync started for  "2012"
==== added CSync exclude List:  "/etc/exclude.lst"
[stderr] 20120419 11:06:51.726 ERROR    csync.lock- Aborting, another synchronization process is running.
 #### ERROR String emitted:  "CSync failed to create a lock file."
CSync run took  69  Milliseconds
** error Strings:  ("CSync failed to create a lock file.")
    * owncloud csync thread finished with error
    * event notification  enabled
OO folder slotSyncFinished: result:  4  local:  false
Status:  4
Sync state changed for folder  "2012" :  false
*  "2012" Poll timer enabled with  16520 milliseconds
<===================================== sync finsihed for  "2012"

My server details:

Environment: Home Server - Opensuse 12.1
Server: Apache
Database: Mysql
Client: owncloud 3.0.2 (it works fine with konqueror)
OC-Version: 3.0.2
PHP-Version: 5.3.8

Any help?
Thanks a lot.

The ownCloud application was not properly shut down the last time you used it.

I had to delete the lock file from .csync in my home directory and it worked.
Just rm lock should work for you as well.

Discussing an improvement with the developer already.

Hi again, I can sync some folders now, but others doesn't work, are some limitation of size of number or subfolders to sync? It's the only thing that I can understand...

When the sync stops it says

Code: Select all

CSync Update failed.

Any help? Please I want to use it under my job folders, and I can't now... :(

Thanks a lot.

Same problem here with Mac OS X Client version 1.02 under Lion (10.7.4). Since this is the first time it's running right after installation it can't be due to improper previous shutdown. At least I hadn't any chance to consciously restart anything.

Business partner told me he couldn't even start it under Snow Leopard (10.6).

What's wrong actually?

Best Regards.

Hello,

we had the same problem here while running Mac OSX Lion (10.7.4) with network accounts for users.
It seems that .csync was created on the network share, but ownCloud couldn't write into it.

I solved it by stopping sync (just to avoid unwanted things). Then I opened up terminal and went to my user folder:

Code: Select all

cd ~
pwd

My user folder was located here: /Network/Servers/server.web-vision.lan/Shared/bhinzer

After that I deleted the existing .csync folder:

Code: Select all

sudo rm -Rf .csync

Usually you need to enter the administrators password to delete the folder.

Now I changed to a local folder I usually use for avoiding similar issues with other applications (like dropbox or firefox) and created a new .csync folder:

Code: Select all

cd /Users/Shared/bhinzer
mkdir .csync

If you don't have such a local user folder you can create .csync in one go from terminal with the following command:

Code: Select all

mkdir -p /Users/Shared/username/.csync

Finally I went back to my original user folder on the network shared and made a symlink to my new local folder:

Code: Select all

cd ~
ln -s /Users/Shared/bhinzer/.csync

After that I resumed sync and it works like charm since then.

Regards,

Boris

@web-vision: Thanks for your reply. I tried your solution, though it didn't apply here at all. My user's folder is already under /Users, it contains lots of hidden subfolders but no .csync to remove, finally it would be okay to have such a folder there usually not requiring any administrative privileges as this is not a network share as it seems to be in your case.

Finally, if your solution would apply it still wouldn't be a solution to me. I'm a software developer myself and thus quite used to work with CLIs and BSD/Linux/Unix-filesystems. However, I'd going to promote ownCloud as a service to my customers and I can't expect them to open up Terminal just to fix a mislocated .csync-folder ...

Will try to build the client from source next trying to figure out what else might be causing this issue.

@web-vision: me again. Though my case wasn't equivalent to your's it was related to it somehow. For some reason my own user folder was owned by a different user not existing anymore. I expect this to be related to transferring my current Mac OS installation from a different device using Apple's migration wizards, failing to properly fix file permissions ... now ownCloud succeeds to create the lock though fails to sync nevertheless for some different reason ...

I also have this issue. If I delete the lock file or even the whole .csync folder owncloud syncs but soon after reports "CSync failed to create a lock file." again and no sync is performed. Lock file or .csync folder is recreated immediately so owncloud can write to it. I also tried changing rights to 777 for .csync so there shouldn't be any write issues for owncloud.

I'm also getting conflicting files on recent files from other machines. The issue started now after the lock file issue so I'm guessing they are related.

I get this too. I've got the client running in Ubuntu 12.04. I just need to remove the lock file and that fixes it but sometime later (possibly after my laptop has gone to sleep?) it re-occurrs.
