How to access ownCloud outside of LAN?

Postby cre8ive65 » Thu May 31, 2012 6:30 am

Hi
This may be a silly question, but how do i access my ownCloud outside of my LAN?

Right now, my address is "http://192.168.1.70/owncloud/", but that only works in my LAN.

Do I need to port forward so I can access it via "http://MYGLOBALIP/owncloud/" if so which port?
Or do I need to make a VPN?

I need Both web, Linux, and Windows client access outside of my LAN

Thanks :)

You need to portforward port 80 to your internal ip-addess, in this case 192.168.1.70

I did that, and it kind of worked.

Now I can access it at MY.GLOBAL.IP/owncloud from INSIDE my LAN, but outside my LAN MY.GLOBAL.IP/owncloud refuses to load, it says its loading in the prgress bar but it never gets more than about 2%, which is progress from a "404 error" that I got when I did not forward that port.

This computer running owncloud is also running a minecraft server on port 25565, so thinking they might interfere, I set this server as a DMZ host in my router, which supposedly allows ALL traffic, but to no avail. I also tried shutting off the minecraft server software but that did nothing either.

Any ideas as to how to fix this?

Hi, 2 things i can think of to check:

1) Check you are using correct external IP (what is my ip . com or similar)
2) Check that your router is forwarding the port 80 traffic correctly. (more likely problem)

Good luck

Yes yes I did all of that, I'm beginning to think this is a problem with iptables, by default it will refuse inbound on port 80 and 443, but i dont know how to open up access to port 80 with iptables. (Im using Lubuntu 12.04 for the server's OS)

Well i just uninstalled iptables and that doesnt seem to be the issue, could it be my ISP blocking port 80 inbound?

Everything is open, am i missing a config file or something? Im baffled, Ill call my ISP and see what they have to say about port 80 or 443 inbound

Hi,

If you already have a working port 25565, you could always shutdown minecraft and restart owncloud on that port. If it works, you have a network issue, if not you have a owncloud issue.

GL :)

Please create a new thread for your issue and provide more info about your environment / setup.

As this is very likely also not an ownCloud issue but just an environment issue you might want to first read into topics like NAT and Port Forwarding to get the basic knowledge how to make your system available at your internet.
