Windows 10 & Windows Phone 10 - Sync w/o 3rd party Sofware

Postby Arsimael » Sat Oct 24, 2015 11:24 pm

I run Windows 10 Enterprise and Just upgraded my Windows Phone to Windows 10. The only thing which bugges me since... ever was that Windows (Phone) was not able to sync with owncloud. On Windows 10 the iCoud hack didn't worked, because you have to enter an email address instead of a Username, and windows 10 checks if it's really an email Address (it checks the syntax for user@domain.tld).

So here's how you sync your Contacts and your Calendar in Owncloud with Windows 10 and Windows Phone 10.

Step One: Create a User in owncloud. As your username (login name) create a user which looks like an email Address. Means: follow the syntax user@domain.tld. If you allready have a user and want to migrate your data, export the contacts from your old user, and import them into your new Account. Same goes with your calendar.

If you want to migrate the files, you have to resync them with your new Account. If you host Owncloud by yourself, just mofe the files on your server to your new account and run the occ tool to rescan your files.

Now Login to your new account and get the card and caldav links.

Windows 8/8.1/10 (On your PC/Tab)
1. Open the Contacts app
2. Go to Settings and "Accounts"
3. Add an iCloud Account.
4. Enter your email-like username and your password.
5. Go to the Postbox settings and click on "advanced"
6. change the Cal/Carddav Links to the links you got from your Owncloud
7. Accept. Maybe you have to reenter your password.

Done. Windows now synches with your owncloud.

Windows Phone 8/8.1/10:
Do the same Steps as mentioned above. But instead of open an app, you just go to Settings --> accounts and add an iCloud Account there.

Now your Windows devices synchronize with your owncloud contacts and calendars. It works in both ways like a charm.

Disable the eMail Synchronisation. To avoid annoying error messages.

Hi,

very likely caused by this issue in the SabreDAV issue:

https://github.com/fruux/sabre-dav/issues/727

as also discussed at some threads here in this forums and the contacts/calendar apps issue trackers.

*Edit*

Btw. this is not a Tutorial so you chose the wrong category.

This tutorial looks great, but unfortunately it's not working on our Windows phone 10 device.
I added an iCloud account, then added a calDAV server in advanced settings. Now when I look at the calendar's settings of accounts, there is en "yellow" error displayed: "Calendars cannot be gained"

I'm really not sure, if I'm giving it right CalDAV server, because in ownCloud calendar, there are more types of URLs.
One directly at requested calendar:
https://XXX.XXX.X.XXX/owncloud/remote.p ... y_tdservis
Another down under settings button:
https://XXX.XXX.X.XXX/owncloud/remote.php/caldav/
And another one under iOS/iCloud address:
https://XXX.XXX.X.XXX/owncloud/remote.p ... metal.tld/
I created special account with "tdmetal.tld" in name and tried all these three servers, but it give me the same error every time.

I don't understand, why it's so big problem to add a CalDAV sync on Win Phone, instead of Android, where it's really simple with first free app.

I also tried an app PH Cloud CalDAV sync from windows store, which should make a CalDAV sync connection, added settings, but nothing showed in any calendar in Phone. I've read, that this app does not support SSL protocol, so it's useless for owncloud connection.

Anyone have some suggest?
Many thanks for that.

Hi,

have a look at my previous comment:

This fix in SabreDAV is currently not shipped in ownCloud so you need to do this change manually.

Thanks RR, I edited that Profile.php file with 'MSFT-' on line 620, but sync still not running.
I'm not sure, if I have the "icloud" account set correctly... it still says in calendar: "System error" - Calendars cannot be gained.

Then maybe contact a community having more knowledge about Windows or Windows Phone and ask them how this can be debugged from client-side.

From oC side having a look at the servers logfiles (see FAQ forums) might help here.

OK, I will try to search somewhere else.

I will try to use a Google account yet and see what happens, because it has a calDAV server in settings too. Thank you for now.
